Lovely doll with original red checked shorts and cap and red felt sandals, ready for the beach!
This is a rarely seen Norah Wellings doll with short, astrakhan hair and glass eyes from the early period, 1927-33
The doll has a velveteen body and moulded face with a moveable head 

Norah Wellings worked for Chad Valley as a designer between 1919 and 1926 before starting The Victoria Toy Works in Wellington, Shropshire with her brother in1927
A gift of a doll to Queen Mary marked the beginning of her world wide fame.
The factory closed in 1959 on the death of her brother and all remaining dolls and patterns were burnt.

 

Condition: Very good, no fading or wear except for slight thread damage on top of nose- images 2 and 7

 

Dimensions: Height 37cm, width at shoulders 11cm
