This Mercury glass goblet (or Chalice) has etched vine leaf foliage and grape decoration and is gilded inside
-Mercury glass was originally called- 'Poor Mans Silver'
Mercury glass (silvered glass) is double walled glass with a silvering solution applied between the layers giving it a shining silver appearance
(Called mercury glass though silver nitrate was more commonly used)
The technique originated in Germany C1840's
In excellent condition, some slight clouding at base but with its original lead seal
