Little Peg Doll, 'Grodnertal' Doll, in a fine lawn, hand made smock.
In good condition, finely painted face showing slight signs of wear
Peg wooden dolls, also known as Dutch dolls (German: Grödner Gliederpuppen), are a type of wooden doll from South Tyrol.
Called Peg Dolls because arms and legs are moveable as they have little pegs in the joints allowing flexibility, this particular doll however has only one movable arm, her other limbs seem fixed and I haven’t wanted to spoil her! She looks very stylish standing with her basket!
They originated as simple lathe-turned dolls from the Val Gardena in the Alps. These dolls were sold undressed and young girls and children would then make their clothing from scraps of fabric.
