Charming early C19th watercolour of a little girl in a blue dress carrying a little posy of flowers
Before the early 20th century, it was common for mothers to dress boys in a 'masculine' colour like pink in order to grow into a more manly individual later in life.
Girls were dressed in a more 'feminine' alternative like blue.
In the early 20th century this was reversed.
Most babies wore white as this was so much easier to launder.
Framed in a rich brown birds eye maple frame
